Essential Job Functions):

  • Support a learning Center environment.
  • Help with appropriate daily activities for children.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy nurturing environment for children.
  • Establish a safe and healthy nurturing environment for children.
  • Supervise children for safety.
  • Arrange classroom daily and prior to Fall and Summer sessions.
  • Change diapers and/or wet or soiled clothing.
  • Keep the environment clean and orderly; bend and pick up toys, wipe tables and chairs, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings, school programs, In/Service Training. Fill out injury reports.
  • Answer the telephone and record messages according to company format.
  • Handle the responsibilities of cooking and keeping a kitchen
  • Understand and do the math required for figuring the quantity of food to prepare
  • Follow guidelines of USDA Federal Food Program
  • Keep records accurate and up to date
  • Plan meals according to Kama‘aina Kids/HCC Standard Menu and USDA guidelines
  • Prepare meals
  • See that meals are served on time
  • Determine necessary foods to be ordered from the Main Office or appropriate supplier when authorized
  • Attend food service workshops as directed


Secondary Job Functions (tasks that can be delegated):

  • Call in orders to Main Office and vendors
  • Shop for fresh foods and store them properly
  • Handle a Petty Cash Account; be accountable for all money issued for food purchases
  • Prepare and post menus for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack
  • Set up and serve meals
  • Wash and sterilize dishes, pots, glasses, and utensils after use
  • Scrub counters and kitchen tables after use (may also be responsible for cleaning the dining area after a serving)
  • Keep kitchen floor clean by picking up dropped food and wiping up spills
  • Clean refrigerators and stove at least weekly
  • Clean fan, freezers, and storage areas at least every other month or as needed

Additional Responsibilities (expected of all staff):

  • Relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
  • Greet parents cheerfully.
  • Greet children individually, warmly, and cheerfully.
  • Give loving personal attention to children when they need it; comfort crying, dry tears, wipe noses, give hugs and reassurance.
  • Be conscious of cleanliness of children; soiled clothing must be changed, children’s hands and faces kept clean.
  • Report all sign of illness, injury or possible abuse and unusual behavior to the Center Director.
  • Use group management and discipline that is positive, consistent, and appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Communicate with children, parents, coworkers, and Director.
  • Work cooperatively with Director and other staff towards maintaining a quality program for children.

Qualifications:

Candidates must pass required state and company background checks and meet state and company minimum education.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid & CRP/AED Certification (Qualified Training Provided).
  • No prior experience required; all training is provided.
