About Us: Kama‘aina Kids is a private, non-profit, multi-service organization dedicated to serving children and their families through quality childcare programs. Our services include, but are not limited to, preschool programs, before & afterschool programs, day camps, environmental education programs, and enrichment programs.
About the Role: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Facilities Maintenance Director to oversee the maintenance and repair of our multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have experience in a regulated environment such as schools or hospitals and will be a highly skilled all-around handyman with the ability to manage and supervise 1-2 others. In addition to hands-on maintenance, the successful candidate will also be responsible for organizing and managing small remodel projects and ensuring that our facilities are well-maintained and up to code.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all facilities (17 sites in Oahu)
- Manage and supervise 1-2 maintenance staff
- Organize and manage small remodel projects, including coordinating with outside contractors and overseeing bids
- Oversee capital improvement projects to ensure facilities are updated and improved as needed
- Ensure that all facilities are well-maintained and up to code
- Respond to and resolve maintenance and repair requests in a timely manner
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to minimize disruptions and ensure facilities are in good condition
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operation of all facilities
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance and repair work
- Monitor and control maintenance expenses to ensure budget compliance
- Stay informed of relevant regulations and codes affecting the facilities
- Calmly and efficiently, manage emergencies as they arise.
- Work to complete projects in a timely manner, as required.
- Respectfully and responsibly, represent Kama’aina Kids and act with integrity and in the company’s best interests.
- At least 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance and management. Experience in a regulated environment such as schools or hospitals will be helpful.
- Experience and working knowledge of construction, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical systems. Electrical, plumbing and/or HVAC certifications/license (preferred but not required).
- Experience negotiating with and overseeing vendors and contractors.
- Ability to perform hands-on maintenance and repair work
- Ability to work a full-time, 40-hour a week schedule, sometimes off-hours as the business requires (i.e., emergencies.).
- Be able to stand on your feet 75% of the day. Capable of lifting 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, twist and bend to perform needed tasks.
- Available 24/7 for emergencies that may arise.
- Detail oriented and organized. Must be able to manage time efficiently. Ability to multi-task and follow up on issues and tasks through completion.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise 1-2 others
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and oversee small remodel projects
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, with a solution-oriented mindset
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of childcare facilities and state regulations, helpful but not required. Willingness to learn and adhere to state childcare regulations.
