RESPONSIBLE TO:     Site Coordinator of Program & School Age Director
PROGRAMS:                Day Camps & Summer Plus
LOCATION:                  Various Locations on Oahu (Manoa, Kailua, Kaimuki, Aina Haina, Hawaii Kai)
HOURS:                        
Summer Day Camp shifts range from 4 hours to 8 hours per day and occur between 6:30am – 5:30pm, Monday through Friday
Summer Plus shifts are from approximately 1:30pm – 5:30pm, Monday through Friday

Job Summary:

Submit lesson plans to Site Coordinator one (1) week in advance.  Strive to make all activities meaningful and enjoyable for every child.  Follow schedule and start activities on time.  Ensure that group is under control and never left unsupervised.  Remain with your group throughout the day, including lunch and snack times.  Set a positive example for children to follow.

Typical Duties:

  1. Always ensure the safety and health of all group members.
  2. Always know how many groups count and the whereabouts of each child assigned to the group.
  3. Understand and be in accord with Kama’aina Kids purpose, policies, and dress code.
  4. Organize in advance an activity that is in line with the objectives of the program.
  5. Lead and control the group in all daily activities.
  6. Stimulate creative learning and create fun and positive group experiences.
  7. Provide safe, structured activities during transitions, downtimes, or as requested by Site Coordinator.
  8. Communicate with parents or guardians of children on a daily basis.
  9. Care for and maintain facilities and equipment used by the group.
  10. Attend all counselors’ meetings called by the Site Coordinator.
  11. Pass out notices as required.
  12. Oversee proper sign-in and sign-out procedures of daily rosters.
  13. Ability to ensure the safety of all campers and staff.
  14. Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  15. Participation in all overnight camps scheduled for your site.
  16. Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
  17. Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  18. Ability to assist in teaching one activity.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  2. Experience working with children.
  3. Current Red Cross CPR & First Aid Certificate.
  4. Lifeguard & WSI Certificate, desired.
  5. Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  6. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, positive attitude.

Physical Effort Required:

Ability to lift 40 lb., physically fit to teach, supervise, and participate with children in sports and other activities that may require running, jumping, bending, squatting, ability to stand for (4) four hours, if necessary to the activity being presented. Able to assist children in an emergency (fire, injury, etc.); observe loading and unloading of buses, and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children.
